Second shooting suspect now charged

Windsor police have arrested a second suspect in connection with a shooting on the west side of the city.

Ilyas Gilao, 19, of Brampton was arrested Sunday evening at Windsor police headquarters. Officers had begun a search for him on Friday.

Constable Talya Natyshak said Gilao is facing a total of eleven charges, including attempted murder, using a firearm to commit an indictable offence, possession of a loaded gun without authorization, failure to comply with a release order, and breach of probation.

Officers responded to a home on Askin Avenue near Pelletier Street at around 12:30 a.m. on February 15 and found a gunshot victim. He was treated in hospital for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

A previous suspect was subdued on Thursday by a K-9 unit in the area of Bruce Avenue and Park Street West. Jeffery Kumi is also facing a multitude of charges, including attempted murder.

These charges have not been proven in court.

Windsor police would like to thank the public for its help in this matter. The Major Crimes Division is still investigating. Anyone with information should call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4830, or Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
