The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch due to sustained strong winds in the forecast throughout the evening Friday and into Saturday.
Winds shifting from a westerly direction to a northwest direction could cause flooding along the shoreline of Lake St. Clair in the City of Windsor, Town of Tecumseh and the Town of Lakeshore.
Winds continue to be strong with sustained speeds between 35-40 km/h. Wind speeds are expected to slow down by early afternoon Saturday though some gusts may remain high.
These conditions bring an elevated risk of flooding, nearshore erosion, waves overtopping with splashing and spray particularly with high lake levels. Current water levels in Lake St. Clair are significantly higher than they were at this time last year.
The advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
