Single-vehicle crash leads to numerous charges

A Windsor man is facing impaired driving charges after a single-vehicle crash on Riverside Driver earlier this week.

Around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to the area of Riverside Drive West and Elm Street after a Jeep Cherokee struck a concrete light pole. Officers found the driver unconscious at the wheel and a live cable draped over the vehicle. The man was safely extracted from the car and brought to the hospital with minor injuries.

While officers responded to the call they found a handgun and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, which was seized as evidence. An investigation revealed that the loaded firearm was reported stolen from the United States.

Police have charged 44-year-old Joseph Toniolo with impaired driving by drug and numerous firearm-related charges. None of the charges have been proven in court.
