Overnight crash leads to impaired charges

A 44-year-old Windsor man has been charged following a crash on the city's east side.

It happened shortly after midnight Tuesday on Riverside Drive East near Lauzon Road. Officers arrived on scene to find a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole, resulting in power outages to nearby homes. The collision also resulted in damage to the front of one property.

It was determined that the unidentified driver was impaired and he was taken into custody. He was then treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver is facing one count each of impaired driving and driving in excess of the legal blood-alcohol content.

Riverside Drive East is expected to remain closed at Lauzon Road for most of Tuesday as hydro crews complete the necessary repairs. An alternate route is strongly advised.
