Do you have a date scheduled in Windsor-Essex Provincial Offences Court? There are a few things you need to know.
The Chief Justice of Ontario has ordered all Provincial Offences Act (POA) court dates to be cancelled through at least May 29, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In accordance with the province of Ontario's emergency orders, all timelines under the POA are on hold until further notice.
At the Windsor facility, the general phone line is no longer being answered, but emails will continue to be checked frequently.
If you have a court date in Windsor that is set between now and May 29, do not attend. Your date will be adjourned with a new one set later. You will be notified of the rescheduled date by mail at the address on file with the court.
If you wish to make a request for Early Resolution, they are accepted by email or internet only at the province's official website. If you don't have access to a printer or the internet, paper forms and a dropbox are available at 400 City Hall Square East.
Trial requests are accepted only by email and post at this time. Send your completed Notice of Intention to Appear form, found on the City of Windsor's website under POA forms, to this email address. With no timelines in place right now, you do not need to send a request in within 14 days, as indicated on the citation.
Payments can only be made online or by mail. Attach the mail-in payment form found on the City of Windsor's website under POA forms. Online payments must be made in full.
For other requests or applications, they are being acted on on an urgent basis. Urgent requests include any person who is in default of their fine and needs to complete a re-opening, or an extension of time to pay to reinstate their driver’s licence.
