Local contractors to help distribute sandbags to Windsor residents

Local contractors have been brought on board to help Windsor residents threatened with flooding get the sandbags they need.

While residents can still pick up their sandbags, the contractors will charge a discounted price to deliver pallets of them to those who need help.

The sandbags are available to residents in the city at the most significant risk of flooding, those who live along the north side of Riverside Drive East between George Avenue and the Tecumseh town line.

Those who plan to pick up the sandbags themselves are asked to call 311 and book an appointment. Those are available Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and there is a limit of 100 sandbags per household.

The sandbag station is at 9410 Little River Road. Residents will have to check in with the attendant and provide proof of address.

The City of Windsor has been monitoring high water levels and wind conditions along Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River for the potential of flooding.

It asks residents to keep up to date by visiting the Lake and River Flooding webpage.

It also recommends subscribing to Windsors Alerts, where subscribers are notified of significant emergencies and disasters.
