Phone upgrades may mean a busy signal at 311 and 211

Some callers into the City of Windsor's 311/211 Contact Centre may get a busy signal over the next week while the phone system is upgraded.

The upgrade means there will be some technical changes on the back end of the system, so a small percentage of callers may get a busy signal.

The city said there are other options, including the Windsorc311 App, which is free and emailing 311@citywindsor.ca.

The email address for the 211 call centre is info@211southwesternontario.ca.

311 is for information on city services, while 211 is for community and social services information and supports. Users can also text 311.

Meanwhile, the 311 Contact Centre has released its list of the top complaints for the first quarter of the year.

The top complaint was about dirty yards. The contact centre received 789 calls about that between January 1 and March 31. That is down slightly from the same period last year when it got 811 complaints about neighbours who did not keep up their properties.

There were 721 complaints about removing snow and ice from sidewalks, and 520 calls to pick up bulk items like old furniture.

Garbage that did not get picked up at the curb had the fourth largest volume of complaints with 488, and 485 calls were about potholes.

Since it was launched in August 2005, the service has had over two million calls, online requests, emails and texts.
