If you have a loved one you have not registered yet in the City of Windsor's Vulnerable Persons Registry, you might want to.
Both the city and the Windsor Fire and Rescue Services urge residents to sign up in case there is an evacuation.
It is for anyone who has mobility or cognitive issues or may need special equipment like oxygen.
"In the event of an emergency evacuation, knowing these special needs in advance will be a great help to use in getting these people to safety," said Deputy Fire Chief Andrea DeJong.
There is no age restriction, and homes with multiple residents considered vulnerable can sign up at the same time.
If you have already signed up a loved one, but it has been at least a year, you should update the registry.
High water levels on Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River have heightened concerns about flooding in the Windsor-Essex area. If conditions become extreme, residents could be forced to leave their homes during an evacuation.
The city also reminds residents to sign up for its emergency text alert program called Windsor Alerts if they have not already.
