Tecumseh waste collection returns to normal Thursday

Starting next Thursday, waste collectors in Tecumseh will no longer pick up garbage in bags.

Tecumseh Town Council temporarily changed the rules to allow two extra bags of garbage last month while the public drop off depot was closed. Now that it is open, the town will go back to only collecting waste in hard-sided containers.

Renovation debris also will not be picked up at the curb, even if placed in a hard-sided container. That should go to the public drop off centre.

Residents can call the town at 519-735-2184 ext. 142 to arrange for the pick up of old appliances, mattresses, dressers and bookshelves.

The town also encourages residents to report illegal dumping to the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.

As of Monday, the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority will no longer allow plastic bags in blue boxes.
