More data needed before advancing to Stage 3

The Medical Officer of Health for Windsor Essex would like to see the region remain in Stage 2 for at least another three-to-four weeks.

According to Dr. Wajid Ahmed, that is how much data is needed to get a better sense of how COVID-19 is spreading after the region entered Stage 2.

"It is critical that we continue to follow the data since the reopening and feel more comfortable that despite all these additional places, workplaces that are open right now, we have the virus fairly contained in the community," said Dr. Ahmed.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Monday afternoon most of the province would be advancing to Stage 3 of reopening Friday, Windsor-Essex will remain in Stage 2 for the time being.

Leamington and Kingsville just moved into Stage 2 of reopening on July 7, 2020, while the rest of the region advanced to Stage 2 on June 25, 2020.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Monday. Among the new cases are 10 employees of the agricultural sector and three community cases, while two cases remain under investigation.
