The local medical officer of health is hopeful the premier's visit to Windsor-Essex will give him a first-hand view of what the region is facing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I'm happy that [Premier Doug Ford] is here to see things first-hand, and to get the experience of what we are seeing with respect to the COVID pandemic in our region," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, the medical officer of health for Windsor-Essex.
However, despite Ford's visit on Thursday, Dr. Ahmed did not receive an invitation for a face-to-face meeting with the premier.
Dr. Ahmed said the high number of migrant workers and cross-border travellers are unique challenges for the region.
The health unit reported 17 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, 11 of which are linked to the agri-farm sector, and six are in the community.
