After years of long backups, especially during the school year, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens has officially unveiled road improvements at the corner of Dominion Boulevard and Northwood Street.
The road reopened to traffic earlier this week.
"This Dominion-Northwood intersection has been designed in direct response to the feedback we heard from our residents -- the families, students, and nearby worshippers who were getting snarled in bottlenecks during peak commuting times," said Dilkens. "I am happy to tell that as of today, the pinch points that tied up travellers -- will be far less of an issue."
The corner is close to Northwood Elementary School, Holy Names Catholic High School, and the Windsor Mosque.
Left and right-hand turning lanes have been added and the road has been widened. The intersection also has a new CCTV camera to make sure traffic flows smoothly through the area.
The intersection saw some infrastructure improvements too. There are new sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes.
"I have watched the growth and increased demand on this intersection and roadway over many years," added Ward 10 City Councillor, Jim Morrison. "The long-awaited and highly anticipated improvements being made now will help move traffic greatly."
The latest improvements follow work last summer to upgrade water mains and reduce flooding.
