The Windsor Public Library is opening the Central Library Branch for community access on a trial basis.
Starting July 27 computers will be available for public access.
“Computer and internet access is a fundamental community service which was suspended with our closure in March. Not only do public libraries help people get online and develop their digital skills, a large segment of the low-income and marginalized community depend on the access. We are very pleased to be re-opening,” said Councillor Rino Bortolin, who is chair of the WPL Board.
Curbside service will continue for checking out materials from the library.
Plexiglass dividers have been installed between computer stations and all stations have been spread out. Computers can be used for 45 minutes at a time, 15 minutes of each hour will be reserved for sanitizing. Computer access will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
“We are anxious to see our customers and provide the public library service our community needs,” said WPL CEO Kitty Pope. “We ask that the community be patient with us as we test how best to safely re-open our doors. Computer access is a small, but essential, first step. The health and safety of customers and staff is our primary consideration.”
The branch will be open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The trial period will run until Friday, July 31 at which time staff will evaluate the feasibility of gradually opening other library branches.
