Walmart Canada confirms four workers positive for COVID-19 in Windsor

Walmart Canada has confirmed four workers at two stores in Windsor have tested positive for COVID-19.

There are three at the store on Tecumseh Road East near Lauzon Parkway, and one at the store on Dougall Avenue south of the E.C. Row Expressway.

The company said the three at the store on Tecumseh Road East last worked on July 2, July 12, and July 14.

The one at the Dougall Avenue store last worked July 1.

"Out of an abundance of caution, associates identified as being in close, prolonged contact have been directed to self-isolate. We also have regular enhanced cleaning in the stores and other social distancing measures," wrote Manager of Corporate Affairs Felicia Fefer. "We are in contact with public health about all cases."

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed reports an outbreak has not been declared at the workplace because the confirmed cases are also household contacts.

"We don't have information at this time whether any of them worked while they were symptomatic or whether they were infectious from a public health perspective," said Dr. Ahmed.

He said the public should not be more concerned at this establishment compared to any other store in the community.

"By default, you should assume that anyone you are coming in contact with could potentially have COVID," said Dr. Ahmed.

He said you should clean your hands as you enter a store, wear a mask properly and only touch the items you intend to buy. When you leave the store wash hands immediately and wash your mask as soon as you are able.

In addition to enhanced cleaning, Walmart Canada also told BlackburnNews.com it has wellness checks for all employees at the start of each shift. The company limits the number of customers in the stores, cleans shopping carts, introduced floor markers, and installed plexiglass dividers at all registers, customer service desks, and pharmacies.
