Ahmed offers clarification on gathering limits

As Windsor-Essex settles into Stage 3 of re-opening, the medical officer of health wants to clear up some misconceptions about gathering sizes.

Under the provincial plan, Stage 3 allows for indoor gatherings of up to 50 people and outside gatherings of up to 100 people.

"The requirement for physical distancing between individuals does apply. So the limits represent the maximum number of people in a space that is large enough to maintain physical distancing," said Windsor-Essex Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.

Ahmed also noted that any event at a place that has indoor and outdoor space most comply with the 50 person limit.

"An indoor event, cannot be combined with an outdoor event for the sake of increasing the group size. And in those cases where a meeting or event has an indoor and outdoor component the indoor limit of 50 people will apply," he said.

On Monday morning, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported an additional six cases of COVID-19 in the region. Among the new cases are two agricultural workers, three community members, and one resident of a retirement home. There are currently 102 active cases in the community.
