WECHU reports 73rd COVID-19 death

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has reported another death due to COVID-19 in the community.

The health unit announced on Wednesday that a woman in her 80s passed away in the hospital Tuesday from complications from the virus. She was a resident of a local retirement home. The woman was the 73rd person to pass away from the virus in the Windsor-Essex community.

There were four new cases of COVID-19 confirmed Wednesday. Two are residents of a retirement home and two are close contacts of a confirmed case.

The New Beginnings Retirement Home in Leamington is currently experiencing an outbreak.

There are currently 93 active cases in the community. Nineteen people are in hospital and two of those are in the intensive care unit.
