Humane society issues warning after impersonator picks up strays

The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society has issued a warning after someone, claiming to be from the humane society, was spotted collecting stray animals.

"We do not know who this person is, but we can confirm that this person is NOT a WECHS or ECAC staff member, nor are they in any way associated with the Humane Society or Essex County Animal Control," said the warning posted on the agency's Facebook page.

The agency is asking the public to call them if they have had someone who was not wearing a uniform or driving a marked vehicle, pick up an animal from their home.

"Please do not surrender the animal to them and contact us immediately at 519-966-5751," continued the warning.

Employees at the humane society and Essex County Animal Control always wear uniforms on the job and drive a clearly marked vehicle.
