Suspect arrested in Windsor bank robbery

A suspect has been charged in connection with a downtown bank robbery.

It happened around 9:40 Tuesday morning at a bank on Ouellette Avenue between Chatham Street and University Avenue. A man entered the branch and handed an employee a note. The note said he had a weapon and directed the employee to give him money. No weapon was seen. The suspect was given some cash and he took off.

On Sunday morning, patrol officers saw a man matching the description of the suspect in the area of Ouellette Avenue and Wyandotte Street. When the man saw the officers approaching, he tried to run but was soon stopped and arrested without incident.

A prohibited weapon was found on the man when the officers searched him, according to Sergeant Steve Betteridge.

Michael Nguyen, 29, of no fixed address, is charged with robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon, and breach of probation.

These charges have not been proven in court.
