Diane Costello, the Windsor woman who fought to see her parents from Michigan one last time, has passed away.
An obituary posted on the Families First website said she passed away Tuesday.
Her daughter, Shayla Costello, became engaged in a month-long battle for an exemption from the Quarantine Act so her grandparents, Marolyn and Norman Hotchkiss, could visit Diane in hospice care.
Many local politicians, including Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk, and Windsor West MP Brian Masse took up the fight.
Costello got to say goodbye to her parents on September 17 when they visited her at the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.
The obituary said Costello was 53.
"Diane Costello was called to Heaven after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer," it read. "Loving Mom of Jory Xander, Sara Christine, Shayla Lee, and furbabies Shamrock and Shiane. Diane always put her children first, she was a 'Mom' to all and welcomed people with open arms."
The visitations are on Friday at Families First on Dougall Avenue in Windsor from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The funeral service is set for 7 p.m. on Friday.
