The latest epidemiological study by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit shows COVID-19 case rates in Windsor Essex remains low and the primary source of transmission is among close contacts.
On Friday, the health unit reported three new cases of COVID-19 in the region. Among the new cases are two travel-related cases and one community-acquired case.
There are 42 active cases in the community. One person is in hospital.
The COVID-19 outbreak at Dolce Vita retirement home is now over. There are no long-term care or retirement facilities in the community experiencing an outbreak. There are no outbreaks at any local workplace or school either.
Since the beginning of the school year, 284 students and staff have been tested for COVID-19. Only four cases have been identified within the local school systems.
In the last week, about 908 tests were completed daily in Windsor Essex. The health unit has seen a jump in turnaround time for test results. Only about 10 per cent of tests are coming back within one day and only 50 per cent of test results are coming back in two days.
The province of Ontario reported a record 732 new cases. There were 323 new cases in Toronto, 141 in Ottawa and 111 in Peel.
