As you make plans for Thanksgiving, the medical officer of health for Windsor-Essex is urging people to be responsible.
Dr. Wajid Ahmed is asking people to follow public health guidelines and not host large family gatherings.
"It's a critical time. I want people to enjoy Thanksgiving but in a way that does not put anyone at risk. Follow public health guidelines, try to stick with celebrating Thanksgiving with the people that you live with. If you are alone you can meet up with people in a safer manner without putting anyone at risk," said Dr. Ahmed.
While case counts remain low in Windsor Essex, Dr. Ahmed reminds people that cases can rise quickly.
"This is an opportunity for people to make the right choice, to do the right thing to keep everyone safe," said Dr. Ahmed.
On Monday, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported one new case of COVID-19 in the community. The person was a close contact of a confirmed case.
There 38 active cases being followed by the health unit. Currently, there are two people in the hospital being treated for COVID-19.
Ontario reported 615 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday morning. There are 289 new cases in Toronto, 88 in Peel, and 81 in Ottawa.
