Ahmed asks residents to reconsider travel

With COVID-19 cases on the rise throughout the country and around the world, the medical officer of health for Windsor-Essex is reminding people to restrict travel whenever possible.

On Thursday, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported one new case of COVID-19 in the region. The case is linked to travel outside of North America.

"It is important that travel, international travel and even local travel in areas such as the GTA area where we are seeing a lot of cases right now, I would request that people reconsider that and try to stay closer to home," said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.

There are now 37 active cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex with two people in the hospital.

Ontario reported 797 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday morning. Nearly 48,500 tests were completed in the province, the largest number of tests completed to date.  There are 265 new cases in Toronto, 182 in Ottawa, 134 in Peel and 78 in the York Region.
