TWEPI looks for tourism ideas through "Spark" program

Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island hopes a new program for individuals, small businesses and non-profit organizations will spark some new tourism ideas.

Ontario Tourism Innovation Lab's "Spark" Mentorship and Grants Program had a successful pilot project two years ago and is launching a second edition this year.

Applicants will be matched with a mentor and provided with a $3,000 grant to help develop their tourism idea.

The program is taking applications until November 30 online. The top applicants can pitch their ideas at a session where three winners will be selected.

"The goal is to find, foster, and support new tourism ideas, experiences, and partnerships that will enhance current offerings, address gaps, motivate travel, and increase visits year-round," read a release from TWEPI. "Organizers are especially interested in ideas that incorporate sustainability, connect with technology, and showcase our diverse communities, history, and people."

The pandemic has been especially hard on the tourism industry, and innovation is crucial to its recovery.
