Steel producer finds way to help Windsor's youth in need

Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, ArcelorMittal Windsor has found a way to help the city's youth.

The Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Foundation’s (WECAF) announced on Wednesday that the steel producer had provided a $10,000 donation to its annual Holiday Program.

The WECAF said as a supporter of the foundation for a number of years, ArcelorMittal staff typically receive wishlists from the foundation and do the shopping for the holiday program. However, out of caution due to the pandemic, the company made the decision to make the large donation instead.

"As WECAF faces one of the greatest challenges in terms of the impact from COVID-19, ArcelorMittal is an example of how organizations and companies may shift their traditional practices to still support over 700 families and youth living independently," the foundation said in a news release.

The donation will be used to buy 33 youth food, clothing, personal items, and household goods that will ensure a happy holiday season and assist their financial well-being.
