More Windsor students are being sent home after another case of COVID-19 was detected at a Catholic elementary school in the city.
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board announced on Thursday that it has dismissed a cohort of 19 students from WJ Langlois Catholic Elementary School after someone within the school community tested positive for the virus.
"We learned of the confirmed case late this afternoon and have notified the affected students that they are not to attend school tomorrow," the school board said in a news release on Thursday. "We want to assure parents that we are cooperating with the health unit and doing everything we can to make sure that we continue to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for their children."
The school board said it is working with the health unit to contact all individuals, both students and staff, who may have been affected and give them directions to follow. Those who have not been contacted by the health unit are not considered to be at risk. All students who have not been identified as close contacts can attend school as per usual.Parents are being asked to continue to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19 and to contact a healthcare provider if they become ill.
There have been four other active COVID-19 cases at schools within the Catholic board's district -- St. Peter Catholic Elementary School, St. Joseph's Catholic High School, and St. Andre Catholic Elementary School.
