Valentinis acclaimed on English Catholic board, Higgison elected at public board

The leadership on the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board will stay the same.

At its annual organizational meeting Tuesday night, the board acclaimed chairman Fulvio Valentinis, and vice-chair Lisa Soulliere for their third consecutive term in those roles. Votes were cast by trustees.

Valentinis, who represents Windsor Wards 1 and 10, said he was pleased to be asked to remain chairman and was anxious to help the board meet current challenges.

"We’re navigating our way through some very challenging times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’ve been working very well with our senior administrative team on making sure we continue to provide safe learning environments for our students and staff," said Valentinis in a media release. "At a time like this, it will be very important to maintain stability in our organization.”

Soulliere represents the Lakeshore area and was first elected in 2000.

"As trustees, we have an obligation to make sure that we are focused on providing outstanding learning experiences for our students," said Soulliere. "The pandemic poses some serious challenges, but our administration has demonstrated its ability to pivot and provide our teachers and support staff with the resources they need to make sure that we continue to meet the needs of our students."

The other trustees are Fred Alexander, Kim Bouchard, Mary DiMenna, Frank DiTomasso, Mary Heath, Bernie Mastromattei, and Tony Polifroni. Student trustees this school year are Jada Malott and Roman Oglan.

At the Greater Essex County District School Board, Trustee Alicia Higgison was elected Chair of the Board of Trustees for a one-year term. She represents Lakeshore and Tecumseh. This will be her first term.

Trustee Cathy Cooke, who represents Windsor Wards 5,6,7 and 8, was elected Vice-Chairperson.

The trustees on the GECDSB are Julia Burgess, Sarah Cipkar, Alan Halberstadt, Ron LeClair, Aimee Omstead, Linda Qin, Jessica Sartori, and Cathy Simko-Hatfield. The student trustees are Nabil Johny and Anumita Jain.
