Assessment centres again testing international travelers

People needing a COVID-19 test to travel abroad can once again visit a hospital-run assessment centre to get it.

Under the guidance of Ontario Health, the Windsor-Essex centres run by Windsor Regional Hospital and Erie Shores Healthcare have been directed to resume testing international travellers for coronavirus, effective immediately.

Ontario Health has allowed the centres to perform the tests again due to a lack of private testing centres on the west side of the province. The directive is an about-face from one given Thursday when Ontario Health directed hospital-run centres to stop testing for international travellers.

The assessment centres at the Metropolitan and Ouellette campuses of Windsor Regional Hospital, and the one at Erie Shores Healthcare in Leamington, accept appointments online and by phone.

The Ouellette campus is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. The Met campus is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. The Erie Shores Healthcare centre is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Asymptomatic patients can get a test at select pharmacies across Windsor-Essex, including many Shoppers Drug Mart locations.
