Close to 200 more homes and businesses in Windsor will be connected to high-speed fibre-optic internet through the latest Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology project.
Cogeco will be connecting more than 12 kilometres of fibre optic cabling to fill in gaps within the City of Windsor. This will include an area off of Howard Avenue and south of the airport. The project will cost $936,000 and is being funded by Cogeco and the SWIFT project.
“SWIFT is proud to partner with Cogeco Connexion as we continue to improve access to high-speed services across Southwestern Ontario,” said SWIFT Board Chair David Mayberry. “Today’s newly announced project will not only deliver better broadband connectivity throughout the City, but the project will also connect an elementary school to provide more students with equitable access to digital resources and online opportunities.”
The project will begin in 2021 and be completed by mid-2022.
“The majority of residents living in Windsor have access to quality broadband services, but there are still a number of small pockets within the City where service is insufficient and lacking,” said Barry Field, Executive Director, SWIFT. “With today’s announcement, we will work to bridge outstanding service gaps throughout the City by delivering future-proofed solutions to support online learning and the growth of local businesses.”
This project will help to get the Al-Hijra Academy connected to high-speed internet along with 190 other homes and businesses.
