Erie Shores Healthcare puts non-urgent surgeries on hold

Following an announcement from Windsor Regional Hospital, officials at Erie Shores Healthcare said they too will put non-urgent surgeries and procedures on hold starting Monday.

Diagnostic imaging tests are also being postponed.

”Windsor-Essex currently has the highest rate per capita of COVID-19 cases in Ontario,” said Chief of Staff Doctor Ross Moncur.  “As a result, we have seen an increase in related pressures on our hospital over the past month, and we anticipate these pressures will continue or increase over the coming six to eight weeks.”

The hospital will continue to perform urgent and emergency surgeries. Cancer surgeries will be prioritized.

Patients will be notified if their care is impacted.

Erie Shores Healthcare is also working with other hospitals in the region to assess decanting options.

”In order to be available to provide care to the sickest patients in our community, we now need to again prioritize procedures and surgeries and postpone any elective procedures until the surge is over,” explained Moncur.
