It's a girl! Windsor welcomes first baby of 2021

The first baby born in 2021 at the Windsor Regional Hospital is a girl.

Lia Valantana Cerrascu was welcomed by her mom Diana Gutierrez and dad Luis Riviro Cerrascu at 12:42 a.m. New Year's Day.

Baby Cerrascu Gutierrez weighed in at 5 pounds 12 ounces and is receiving respiratory support to help her lungs get stronger. Gutierrez has been in the hospital for the past 10 weeks when her water broke early.

The new parents were excited that their first child received special recognition and say they're grateful for their daughter's safe delivery.

"I want to give thanks to all the people in the hospital, all the nurses and all the doctors. We are so, so happy," said Riviro Cerrascu.

The couple hopes to introduce their bundle of joy to the rest of their family in Mexico later this year.
