Ground travel between Canada and the United States will continue to be restricted to essential traffic for at least another 30 days.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the extension of the current border restrictions during a news conference Tuesday.
“This is an important decision and one that will keep people on both sides of the border safe,” said Trudeau.
Land border travel between the two countries will be restricted until at least February 21, 2021. Border crossings have been closed to all but essential traffic since March 21, 2020. This includes health care workers employed in Michigan and truck drivers delivering essential goods between the two countries.
There have been 525,612 cases of COVID-19 reported in Michigan with 27,028 cases in Detroit.
