WECHU reports 15 more COVID-19 deaths

There were another 15 deaths linked to COVID-19 reported in Windsor-Essex on Tuesday.

Among the deaths, nine involved members of the general population between the ages of 50 and 90 and six were people between the ages of 60 and 100 who were residents of long-term care and retirement facilities.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit also reported 173 new cases of COVID-19. There are now 2,519 active cases and 8,439 resolved cases.

“We continue to see day to day fluctuations, but overall we can see the seven-day moving average is stabilizing,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed. “We will continue to report the most up to date data to the community to keep everyone aware but please note that our epidemiological study every Friday is a much better way to understand the COVID-19 spread in the region.”

There are currently 121 patients in the hospital with COVID-19, with 17 of them being treated in the intensive care unit.

The health unit is monitoring 53 active outbreaks in the community including 20 in long-term care and retirement facilities.
