2020 crime incidents below the five year average

Overall crime in Windsor and Amherstburg was down 15 per cent in 2020 compared to 2019.

The number of crimes committed throughout the year was also below the five-year average. There were 15,851 criminal code violations recorded in 2020, the five-year average is 16,344.

Although overall crime decreased, crimes against people in Windsor was up 12 per cent in 2020 compared to 2019. Most of the increase can be attributed to assault charges both family and non-family. There were three homicide charges in 2020, while in 2019 there were five.

The property crime rate in Windsor in 2020 was 18 per cent below the 2019 rate.

Both crimes against people and property crimes were down in Amherstburg in 2020 compared to 2019. There were no homicides, manslaughters or violence causing death charges in Amherstburg in 2020.
