The Windsor-Essex Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island are partnering on another campaign to help support regional restaurants.
Like its predecessor ShopYQG, the campaign DineYQG aims to offer support to local restaurants and encourage locals to order take-out and delivery.
According to the chamber, one in six local restaurants will likely close as a result of COVID-19 and the current restrictions in place for restaurants and bars. The sector has also seen a 35 per cent reduction in employment from September 2020 to December 2020, representing about 3,600 jobs.
TWEPI has launched the website dineyqg.com to give local restaurants a free listing, a place to upload their menu and advertise specials.
The Chamber of Commerce has offered to help restaurants connect to government resources and grants launched to help restaurants during this difficult time.
The group is also putting a call out to other service providers in the region. Anyone who has a service they could offer restaurants at a discounted price is asked to connect with the Chamber of Commerce. The services will be provided to restaurants struggling to keep their doors open.
"What we are looking for is how we can help the restaurants and during this time if we can provide them discounted services or better than market rates, that would be fantastic and would go a long way in supporting them," said Rakesh Naidu President and CEO of the Regional Chamber of Commerce.
As part of the marketing campaign, TWEPI is hosting a contest for people supporting local restaurants. By submitting a photo of a receipt, a picture inside or outside the restaurant, or of food delivery, diners can enter a contest to win weekly cash prizes of$100.00. Not only will the diner win money, but the restaurant they supported will also immediately win $1,000. The contest will run from February until April.
