Work starts on new pedestrian bridge in east Windsor

The City of Windsor starts work Monday on a new pedestrian bridge over the Little River Municipal Drain in Teedie Park.

That means the park will close for the next few months so crews can work as safely and quickly as possible.

When the new 35-metre bridge is done, it will connect two existing trails on either side of Little River.

The park is located on Hawthorne Drive east of Lauzon Road. It straddles Wards 7 and 8.

"I am very excited for the new bridge construction in Teedie Park to begin," said Ward 7 Councillor Jeewen Gill. "This bridge is going to be a great new addition to provide residents with a connection between two trails which will serve as a great asset in leisure and healthy attractive developments in our area."

Ward 8 Councillor Gary Kaschak called it "fantastic news."

"This will ensure our residents have improved walkability and access by making connectivity to the many trails and parks in this area so much easier," he said.

During public consultation, the project was well received by members of the public.

Weather permitting, the new bridge should be open to the public in May.
