Now that the daily COVID-19 case counts are coming down, Windsor Regional Hospital is relaxing some of its visitor restrictions.
Starting Wednesday, the hospital will allow one essential visitor per patient, per day, in one specified time slot.
Patients will be allowed to appoint two essential visitors, but only one may come to the hospital per day.
Those time slots are between 10 a.m. and noon and between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. unless you are visiting someone in critical care. In that case, patients can see their essential visitor between 10 a.m. and noon and 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 19 cases of the virus, continuing a downward trend.
Windsor Regional Hospital may tighten up restrictions again if those numbers spike.
Essential visitors are those who are visiting a patient who is dying or very ill, those who require physical assistance, and those who are providing essential support to a patient.
More than one visitor will be allowed for palliative care patients, those who are near the end of life, and mental health patients. Those visits must take place in a designated common area.
Following expectant mothers, the visitor becomes essential for the newborn once they are born. The mother is not allowed a separate visitor, and if the essential visitor leaves the hospital, they will not be allowed back in.
Patients who have a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 will not be allowed to receive visitors.
