The City of Windsor recreation staff is preparing to open outdoor ice rinks as the region enters into the Red/Control zone of the province's COVID-19 response framework.
The outdoor Lanspeary Lions Rink will open by Wednesday evening and the Charles Clark Square rink is expected to open Monday February 22, weather permitting.
Free public skating will be available by reservation only. Sessions will last for one hour and will have a maximum of 10 skaters. City of Windsor staff will be on site to check skaters in, provide pre-screening, and admit them to the ice.
Reservations can be made through the City of Windsor recreation website.
No other recreation services will be available until the region enters the Orange-Restrict level.
“Recreation staff have already started to plan ahead for potential future re-openings. When public health officials further adjust Windsor-Essex guidelines, then further service level changes may be possible. Our primary focus is to ensure that any activities offered by the City of Windsor can be done in a way that protects the safety of residents and staff," said Executive Director of Recreation and Culture Ray Mensour.
When that occurs the WFCU Centre may remained closed because the facility is being assessed for use as a mass-vaccination clinic.
City staff are tentatively planning to offer day camp services for the school spring break scheduled for April
