An extra dollar spent on a lottery ticket resulted in a big payoff for a Windsor man.
Frank Ostrogonac was sitting at his kitchen table one day checking his numbers, and he noticed that the Encore numbers he played in the January 29 Lotto Max draw were winning numbers.
"At first, I thought I won $2, then $10, when I noticed I matched six numbers, I couldn’t believe my eyes," said Ostrogonac. "I knew I won some money but didn’t know how much until I went online. I was flabbergasted!"
It turned out that Ostrogonac had matched the last six of the seven Encore digits drawn, for a $100,000 prize. He also won a combined $4 on two other Encore draws for a total prize haul of $100,004.
Ostrogonac picked up his prize this week at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. The tradesman said he plans to use the money for a big celebration coming up.
"My wife and I have a milestone anniversary coming up this year, which is a great reason to do something big," said Ostrogonac.
He picked up his winning ticket at a Petro Canada gas station on Tecumseh Road in Windsor.
The Encore option costs an extra loonie on most of the OLG's draw games. Prizes are awarded in 22 combinations and range from $2 for matching the last single digit, to $1-million for matching all seven digits in order.
