Fire investigators believe a house blaze near the University of Windsor was set on purpose.
Windsor Fire and Rescue said crews were called around 9:30 p.m. Sunday to a home on Bridge Avenue near College Avenue.
The fire was soon brought under control and was declared out within an hour. A Windsor Fire investigator was on the scene much of the night to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
The fire service reported via Twitter Monday morning that the fire was intentionally set and began on the first floor of the house. There were no injuries reported and the residents were not home at the time.
The damage estimate is at $150,000.
Windsor police are now involved in the investigation. A photo taken from a surveillance camera showed a pickup truck that was in the area before the fire broke out. The vehicle is described as an older light-coloured model, possibly a GMC or Chevrolet, two-door, with the tailgate possibly missing. The vehicle arrived in the area at around 9:20 pm, heading south on Bridge Avenue, and left the area southbound in the alley just south of Bridge Avenue.
Anyone with information is asked to give Windsor police a call at (519) 255-6700, or contact Crime Stoppers.
