United Way collecting feminine hygiene products for Tampon Tuesday

Saying far too many women are forced to choose between food and feminine hygiene products, the United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County is collecting donations from the community.

Tuesday is "Tampon Tuesday," and the agency asks people to drop off boxes of tampons and pads at their parking lot off McDougall Avenue, just north of Giles Boulevard. The event is between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has had a larger impact on women living in low-income, and the need for menstrual hygiene products remains high," read a release from the United Way. "These products are some of the least donated items to food banks, making it hard for women to get the supports they need to live with dignity."

While dropping off donations, the United Way asks donors to put the products in the truck of their vehicle and remain inside it at all times. Volunteers will pick them up.

The products will be re-distributed to women in need through the Windsor-Essex Food Bank Association, the Welcome Centre Shelter for Women, Legal Assistance of Windsor, the Aids Committee of Windsor, House of Sophrosyne, and other agencies in the region.
