Migrant population part of Phase 2 of vaccination rollout

As the start of the growing season draws nearer, talks are underway to ensure the migrant population in Windsor-Essex has access to the COVID-19 vaccine.

It is expected the temporary-foreign workers will be vaccinated as part of Phase 2 of the province's COVID-19 vaccine roll-out.

CEO and Chief Nursing Officer Theresa Marentette indicated talks are underway with all levels of government.

She said many local farm owners have also reached out to make sure the population is protected.

"We know this is on their radar.  We know what we went through last year, and the importance of the vaccine to mitigate any further spread to the extent that we saw last year," said Marentette.

It is expected the health unit will utilize the Nature Fresh Farm Recreation Centre vaccination site as part of the roll-out for this population. Detailed plans and timing of the immunization have not been finalized.
