COVID-19 case rate increases in Windsor-Essex

With the current COVID-19 case rate of 54.8 for every 100,000 residents, it appears Windsor-Essex will remain in the red for at least another week.

Last week, the case rate was on the cusp of entering the orange level indicators on the province's COVID-19 Response Framework. However, with an average of 35 cases a day over the last week, the case rate has increased.

About 7,595 people were tested for COVID-19 in the last week and 2.4 per cent of tests came back positive. That's a slight decrease from the previous week when the positivity rate was 2.5 per cent.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 39 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Friday. Among those, five are outbreak-related, 10 are close contacts of confirmed cases, one is community-acquired, and 23 are still under investigation.

The health unit also reported another death in the region linked to COVID-19. A woman in her 70s passed away after testing positive for the virus. To date, 396 residents of Windsor-Essex have died due to COVID-19.
