Windsor Essex reaching major vaccination milestone

By the end of the day on Friday, the Windsor-Essex region will hit a major milestone in vaccinating the population.

Over 100,000 residents in the region will have received at least one dose of the vaccine by the end of the day, according to the Windsor Essex County Health Unit.

That represents around 30 per cent of the population aged 16 and older in Windsor-Essex.

At this time, residents 60 and older and residents 50 and older in designated hot spot areas can book a vaccine appointment by visiting weVAX.ca.

At the same time, the vaccine clinics are vaccinating individuals who have been referred by their primary health care provider because of a pre-existing condition that makes them high-risk or at-risk for COVID-19.

Special education workers in the region will also start receiving vaccines starting next week.

The Windsor-Essex region receives around 10,000-12,000 doses of vaccine on a weekly basis.
