New provincial data shows a very high efficacy rate for vaccines in Ontario.
Public Health Ontario released the report on COVID-19 rates among vaccinated individuals on Wednesday.
The Medical Officer of Health for Windsor Essex Dr. Wajid Ahmed helped to break down the report.
He indicated the data shows that only 6,726 people out of the over 3.5 million who have received a vaccine so far have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Over 66 per cent of those infections occurred within 13 days of receiving the vaccine before the body had time to develop the necessary antibodies.

“Only six individuals out of 10,000 people after receiving the vaccine actually end up developing the disease,” said Dr. Ahmed. “This is just for individuals who have received only their first dose.”
About 1 in 10,000 people develop the disease after receiving both doses of a vaccine.
This data combines the efficacy rate of all three vaccines currently being used in Ontario. The data has not been broken down by individual vaccine manufacturer.
To date, there have been no fatalities in Ontario among residents who have received both doses of the vaccine.
