OPP stops Leamington teen's need for speed

A teenage driver will try alternate transportation after being clocked going almost three times the legal limit.

Ontario Provincial Police say a patrol officer was doing enforcement on Erie Street South in Leamington Friday afternoon when they spotted a vehicle whizzing past at high speed. The vehicle's speed was displayed on the radar as 140 kilometres per hour. The limit on that street is  50 kilometres per hour.

The 18-year-old driver was stopped and cited for racing a motor vehicle.

OPP Constable Steven Duguay said the charge comes with an automatic seven-day licence suspension and a week's vehicle impoundment.
