WECHU reports 24 new COVID-19 cases

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 24 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday morning.

Among the new cases, 11 are close contacts of previously confirmed cases, eight are community-acquired, and one is outbreak-related. Case and contact management staff continue to investigate four cases.

There are now 266 active cases in the community and 129 of them involve a variant of concern.

The health unit is monitoring 11 active outbreaks and all but one are connected to a workplace while the other is at the Southwest Detention Centre.

Windsor Regional Hospital is currently treating 26 patients with COVID-19. There are 17 Windsor-Essex residents among those patients and the remaining patients were transferred from other regions.

Since Sunday, over 2,500 Windsor-Essex youth aged 12-17 have been vaccinated against COVID-19. In total, 234,858 local residents have received at least one dose.

Appointments are available at mass vaccination sites in Windsor and Essex County for all residents aged 12 and older who would like to receive their first dose of a vaccine. Go to wevax.ca to view available appointments.
