The active COVID-19 caseload in Windsor-Essex has dropped below 200.
There are now 197 active cases in the community and just over half of them involve a variant of concern.
“I think it’s kudos to the entire community. We’re really looking forward to continuing to bring the active cases down and our daily cases to low and increase our vaccination rate. I am very optimistic, I'm very confident that we will be in a much better spot during the week of June 14 when the province moves to stage one of the reopenings," said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.
On Wednesday, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 18 new infections in the region.
Regional hospitals are treating 11 patients from Windsor-Essex with COVID-19.
To date, 70.2 per cent of adults in Windsor-Essex have been partially vaccinated. Around 57.3 per cent of the total population has received one dose of a vaccine and only 6.3 per cent have received both doses.
At a pop-up clinic held in Lakeshore Tuesday, the health unit vaccinated 426 youth and their families. Another pop-up clinic geared toward youth aged 12-18 and their families will be held in Essex on Thursday.
Residents 80 and older are currently able to book their second vaccine appointments through wevax.ca. All residents aged 12 and older can book appointments for their first dose.
