The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit added ten new COVID-19 cases to the local total on Saturday.
Of the new ones, five are from close contact with another case confirmed previously by public health officials. Three people caught the virus in the community, and the remaining two infections are still under investigation.
Since March 2020, a total of 16,718 people have caught the virus, but 16,163 are resolved.
The fatality rate did not change. So far, 433 people in the region have succumbed to the virus.
The health unit said there were 122 active infections in Windsor-Essex, of which 56 involve a variant of concern.
The vaccination rate continues to climb. The health unit said 264,246 people had at least one dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, and 70,988 are fully vaccinated.
Across Ontario, there were 502 new cases on Saturday and 15 deaths.
Public Health Canada reported its totals at 7 p.m. Friday. There were 1,424 new cases across the country for a total of 1,399,716. Of those, 18,411 are considered active infections. There were also 13 deaths attributed to the virus Friday for a nationwide total of 25,886.
