Fewer than 100 active COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex

The active COVID-19 caseload in Windsor-Essex has dropped below 100 for the first time since the start of the second wave.

There are now 93 active cases in the community and 33 of them involve a variant of concern. There have not been fewer than 100 active cases in the community since November.

On Tuesday, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 13 new cases of COVID-19 in the region. Two of the cases are related to travel outside of North America, two are community-acquired, and one case is a close contact of a previously confirmed infection. Health unit staff continue to investigate eight cases.

Windsor Regional Hospital is treating 14 patients for COVID-19 and four of them are in the intensive care unit.

There have been 347,759 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the community. To date, 265,675 have received at least one dose of a vaccine and 82,084 residents have been fully vaccinated.
