The Windsor region’s COVID-19 indicators are still headed in the right direction.
According to the Windsor Essex County Health Unit’s latest epidemiological summary, the case rate per 100,000 residents in the last seven days was 8.4. This is a further decrease from last week’s reported rate which was 13.2. The positivity rate among those tested also declined and is now 1.6 per cent.
To date, 73.9 per cent of adults have been partially vaccinated and 38 per cent have been fully vaccinated.
“We are seeing the importance of the vaccine. When we had the first vaccine doses increasing in the community our case rates started to go down. Now we are at the stage that we are giving out more of the second doses and the case rates are going down even further. We need to be in that position so that we as a community can safely open and we as a community can get back to normal,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.
On Friday, the health unit reported five new cases of COVID-19 in the community. There was one community-acquired case and one outbreak-related case. A new COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at a manufacturing facility in Lakeshore.
There are currently seven people in local hospitals who have tested positive for COVID-19. Out of these seven patients, five are in the intensive care unit.
Throughout Ontario, there were 256 cases identified out of over 26,000 tests conducted.
